THE COST OF LIVING

The incredibly low cost of living compared to North America makes Ecuador a pleasant place to live. With prices generally one-third of that found in the United States or Canada, everyday is a boxing day sale!

Fresh fruit and vegetables are 20% of North American pricing. Seafood and meat are often half the price. The majority of drugs don’t require a prescription and can cost as little as 10% of US prices. You can have someone clean your home for as little as $20 a day.

THE CARRYING COST OF REAL ESTATE

With North American real estate values dropping, home prices may seem inviting, but what really separates Ecuador from typical seaside communities is the low cost of maintaining your investment property.

On a typical seaside home, taxes, insurance and maintenance are 20% of those typically experienced in the US or Canada, HOA fees in a gated community are typically less than $200 per month.

EXCELLENT HEALTHCARE

Bloomberg ranked Ecuador as the 13th most efficient healthcare system in a 2014 study.  Many hospitals are equipped with the latest in medical technology and staff that is fully trained. Qualified doctors and nurses can be found in all fields; in fact, many are trained in the US, Spain or the UK.

By the way, doctors still make house calls for as little as $25 to $40 and are willing give you their cellphone number. Try to get that service in North America!

SPECTACULAR WEATHER

Coastal Ecuador experiences comfortable temperature for most of the year between 75-85F with relatively low humidity when compared to Mexico, Costa Rica or Panama.

Breathtaking views and cooler temperatures can be found in the Andean cities of Quito and Cuenca. In these locations the average daytime temperature is 75 degrees and drops into the 60’s at night.

WARM & FRIENDLY PEOPLE

Most tourists agree that it is the people of Ecuador that make the experience truly memorable. The Ecuadorian culture is rooted in polite treatment of each other and strangers. While the vast majority are generally less off financially than can be found in the US or Canada, they are ranked amongst the happiest people in the world. They are extremely welcoming to foreigners and always willing to help.

RECENTLY BUILT INFRASTRUCTURE

The infrastructure in Ecuador has improved significantly over the past several years. New highways and bridges have cut travel from any of the three major cities in half. Newly opened international airports can be found in Quito and Manta. Newly opened hospitals can be found in Manta and Bahia. The road system is consistently ranked among the best maintained in South America.

POLITICAL STABILITY / US DOLLAR

Utilizing the US dollar as Ecuador’s official currency means that the governments ability to just print money to increase spending is removed as a temptation. This greatly decreases swings in the economy caused by poor government agendas. Ecuador is rich in natural resources, agriculture  and fishing exports which all lend to a growing economy. Tourism is a recently discovered resource that Ecuador is now trying to encourage.

The Ecuador government is currently “middle of the road” on the political spectrum after being left leaning for the past fourteen years.
